Assistant Teacher/Floater (Downtown Brooklyn)

Little Scholars Learning Center is looking for a caring, dependable, and energetic Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood education team.

As an Assistant Teacher, you will support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing classroom environment where young children can learn, explore, and develop through meaningful daily experiences.

You will help support children’s social-emotional, cognitive, physical, adaptive, and language development while assisting with classroom routines, activities, supervision, and communication with families.

Position Details

Pay: $20.00–$22.00 per hour

What You’ll Do

• Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a warm, welcoming, and organized classroom environment
• Assist with weekly themes, lesson planning, and daily classroom activities
• Engage children in age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences
• Supervise children during classroom activities, transitions, meals, playtime, and daily routines
• Help children develop social, communication, independence, and classroom skills
• Support individual children based on their developmental needs and abilities
• Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy classroom environment
• Build positive relationships with children and communicate professionally with families
• Assist with classroom materials, preparation, organization, and cleanup
• Maintain required certifications and training
• Follow all applicable New York City Department of Health and childcare licensing requirements
• Collaborate with Lead Teachers, administrators, and other members of the center team

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 6 months of professional childcare or early childhood education experience
• Ability to work effectively with young children in a group setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow classroom routines, instructions, and safety procedures
• Patient, dependable, attentive, and nurturing approach to working with children
• Ability to communicate professionally with children, families, and colleagues
• Willingness to complete and maintain all required training, certifications, and clearances
• Ability to meet applicable state and local requirements for the position

Preferred Qualifications

• College coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
• Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
• One year or more of early childhood education or childcare experience
• Knowledge of additional languages
