What is the difference between 3K and UPK programs at West 1st Street?
Great question, and one we hear from families all the time! Both 3K and UPK are completely free, full-day programs funded by the New York City Department of Education, running Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM during the school year. Both use the Creative Curriculum. The key difference is age and developmental focus.
The 3K program is for children who turn 3 years old during the enrollment year. It’s a foundational year focused on language development, early social skills, and building the routines and confidence children need before kindergarten. UPK (also called Pre-K for All) is for children who turn 4 during the enrollment year, and prepares children more directly for kindergarten with structured learning in early literacy, math, science, and independent problem-solving.
Both programs at our West 1st Street center include three hot meals, two snacks, and Extended Care until 6:00 PM for families who need a longer day. Families apply through the NYC MySchools portal at myschools.nyc. Call us at (646) 813-4490 if you have any questions!

Do you offer full-day preschool programs in Brooklyn?
Yes, full-day preschool programs are available for kids ages two to five at Little Scholars on West 1st Street. Our center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and offers an early childhood development-focused curriculum in a licensed, secure, and stimulating setting. In collaboration with NYC DOE, we also provide 3K and UPK programs.
Do you offer part-time care in Bensonhurst?
Yes! Little Scholars Bensonhurst offers part-time enrollment in two flexible schedules. The three-days-a-week option gives your child full days — 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM — on three consistent days each week. You choose your three days at enrollment and they stay the same all year, giving your child a steady routine with familiar classmates. The half-day option runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, which is perfect for easing into a first classroom or keeping afternoons free for family time. Both options include breakfast, lunch, and a snack on every day your child attends.
Part-time at Little Scholars is a full classroom experience on your child’s days — not a scaled-back version of it. Your child joins the same circle time, play-based learning, outdoor play, and meals as full-time children, with the same teachers every time they attend. Fixed days mean the same classmates each week, which helps children build real friendships quickly.
Part-time enrollment is open across infant (ages 3 to 12 months), toddler (ages 1 to 2), and preschool (ages 2 to 5) age groups. Spots vary by age group, so give us a call at (646) 813-4490 to check current availability or simply just book a tour!
