Little Scholars is hiring a caring and dependable Assistant Teacher for our early childhood education center in Downtown Brooklyn.

As an Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the Lead Teacher to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom. You will support daily lessons, classroom routines, play-based learning activities, and the individual developmental needs of young children.

What You’ll Do

As an Assistant Teacher, you will:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in managing the daily classroom routine
  • Help prepare and carry out weekly themes, lesson plans, and learning activities
  • Actively participate in play-based and teacher-guided activities
  • Supervise children carefully throughout the day
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, clean, and organized classroom
  • Support children during meals, transitions, rest periods, outdoor play, and other daily routines
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior
  • Provide children with patient, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care
  • Help prepare classroom materials and learning areas
  • Observe children and share relevant information with the Lead Teacher
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, directors, and other team members
  • Maintain required training and certifications
  • Follow all New York City Department of Health, licensing, health, and safety requirements

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A high school degree or higher
  • At least six months of professional childcare, preschool, daycare, or early childhood classroom experience
  • The ability to assist with age-appropriate educational activities
  • The ability to supervise and engage young children safely
  • Strong communication and active-listening skills
  • Patience, compassion, dependability, and a nurturing approach
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team
  • The ability to follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and health and safety procedures
  • The ability to meet all applicable state and city requirements for the role
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • The ability to commute reliably to 345 Adams Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have:

  • College coursework in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working in a licensed childcare or preschool program
  • Experience supporting infant, toddler, preschool, 3K, or Pre-K classrooms
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
  • An interest in continuing their education or advancing into a Lead Teacher position

Pay and Benefits

Pay for this position starts at $20 per hour. Final compensation may depend on education, qualifications, certifications, and relevant experience.
